This is a tall, strong-smelling (some say unpleasant) biennial or perennial.
Flowers. May-Sept
Flower. The flowers are lilac, as shown in our photo, or very pale blue, about 30 mm long. The lilac or whitish bracts are oval or heart-shaped and longer than the calyces.
Leaves. The leaves are a broad heart shape or oval and toothed; the lower leaves on long stalks.
Habitat. Rocky and grassy areas, roadsides and scrub.
