A short erect or spreading annual wildflower with a thinly hairy stalk. They are most often yellow, but occasionally a bright orange like those in our photos.
Flowers. Mar-June
Flower. Flower-heads are small and yellow or orange. The disk can be the same color or brown or violet-purple.
Leaves. Oblong to oval, finely toothed borne on petioles from the stem.
Habitat. Olive groves, vineyards, open garrigue, cultivated, fallow or waste ground, roadsides. Ours were in an open oak wood beside a vineyard.
Fruit. The fruit-head hasthe outer row of achenes beaked and strongly curved in.
