Field Gladiolus
Gladiolus italicus Fr: Glaîeul italicus
This tall, slender plant is especially beautiful when seen in the middle of the woods, as the ones in our photos. From 6 to 16 striking flowers grow on a single tall stem, usually pointing in alternating directions.
Flowers. Mar-June
Flower. From bright pinkish purple to pale pink, up to 50 mm long.
Leaves. From 3 to 5 narrow pointed leaves, nearly as tall as the flowers.
Habitat. Rocky hillsides, grassy areas and open forests, olive groves and cultivated land.
