This scarlet, pink or purple flower often has a white or yellowish center. The plant is a hairy perennial, short to medium height.

Flower. The red petals surround bluish-black anthers.
Leaves. Palmately-lobed leaves, growing at the base of the plant, are toothed, with oval to lanceolate lobes.
Habitat. fields, olive groves and cultivated fields.
