This large creche scene is located in the Collegiale church in the center of Grignan village. A coin-operated timer (2€) switches on the scenery lights and automation movement for a few minutes. That's not expensive, and the visitors jostle to pay whenever the lights stop, in a feeling of joint participation.
This Provencal creche is a very good replica of the village of Grignan itself, dominated by the Chateau de Grignan at the top. The lights/automation sequence the passage of a Provencal day, from early morning with rising sun and across to the night when the chateau and house lights come on.
