The Gallo-Roman Forum is an active archeological dig located along the south side of Avenue Jules Ferry in Vaison-la-Romaine. Massive columns, statues an several inscriptions have been uncovered.
The main shopping arcade in the La Villase site leads directly into the Forum site.

The Roman Forum was the political and economic center of the Gallo-Roman town, and with the importance of Vaison-la-Romaine (Vasio Julia Vocontiorum), this will be an amazing site.
A group of archeological researchers first uncovered the site in 2011. The excavating dig is going during every month of June in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
A tall protective wall all along Avenue Jules Ferry has some information about the site and blocks most of the view. There are a very few round "windows" for observation by the passing public. We ended up holding our camera over the top of the wall and shooting completely blindly — editing out a few useful photos later.
