Haute-Provence Observatory
This astronomical observatory is located on a low hill of the wide plains southwest of Forcalquier and northwest of Manosque, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. Sitting at an altitude of about 650 m, the observatory has a clear view of the skies because of the remote location and generally clear air.

The road to the observatory passes through the aptly-named village of Saint Michel-l'Observatoire.
The Observatoire de Haute-Provence is operated by the INSU (Institut national des sciences de l'Univers) branch of the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique - National Center for Scientific Research).
