Burnt Orchid
Orchis ustulata Fr: Orchis brûlé
The Orchis ustulata is fairly short. The ones we found and photographed were about 20-25 cm high.

Flowers. May-June
Flower. The sepals and petals are brownish to dark purple, forming a 12-14mm helmet. The lip is white or pink, 10-15 mm long, with dark purple spots.
Leaves. Two-Three basal, broad, oblong and pointed.
Habitat. Rough grassy areas, scrub and open woodlands; likes calcareous soil; often hills or mountains, but under 2100 m.
