Spotted Gentian
Gentiana punctata Fr: Gentiane ponctuée
We found these striking wildflowers at 2400 m, above Lac Negre in the Alpes-Maritime, growing against and between the rocks, surrounded by Mountain Rhododendron (Rhododendron ferrugineux).
Those in our photos were 60 cm tall, with 80 mm flowerheads. The black speckles inside the petals are quite distinstive.
Flowers. July-Aug
Altitude. 1500-2500 m
Leaves. 10-30 cm long, and up to 10 cm wide.
