Sun Spurge
Euphorbia helioscopia Fr: Euphorbe Réveille-Matin
An erect hairless spurge, with flower clusters on top of an unbranched reddish stem. The flat-topped flowering heads have 5 rays cupped by 5 large bracts. Each ray is divided into 3 smaller rays, each of which is divided into a final 2 rays.
Flowers. Feb-May
Flower. The small greeinsh flowers are nested in the cupping yellow-green bracts that are shaped like the leaves.
Leaves. The small leaves are round-tipped oval spatualas with fine serrated edges, growing in opposed pairs along the stems, broader at the top.
Habitat. Roadsides, waste ground and cultivated or disturbed ground.
