Grey Ragwort
Senecio incanus Fr: Séneçon blanchâtre
We found a lot of these early August at Lac Negre in the Alpes-Maritimes, at 2400 m. The ones in our photo were only 10 cm tall, wiht 15 mm flowers and 3 cm long leaves.
Ragworts (Senecio) are herbs or dwarf shrubs with alternate leaves. They have multiple flower-heads born in flat-topped clusters.
These, like many of the Senecio, contain a toxic substance that make then quite unappetizing for chamois and mountain sheep.
Flowers. June-Sept
Altitude. above 2000 m
