Sorgues is a small town on the Ouvèze river, 10 km northeast of Avignon. The town has shops, cafés, and some old-town streets for exploring,. It's not a really exciting place except on market-day Sunday when it becomes very active. Sunday markets are fairly rare in Provence, and the Sorgues market is a large event and well worth experiencing.
Market Day Sunday
Sorgues has a very large clothing and misc-items market around the north side of the town hall and surrounding parking lot. The food-produce market is further in along the Cours de la République and Place République.
The market in Sorgues is popular because of its size, and also because it's one of the rare markets on a Sunday.
Dining
We didn't find much in the way of low- or middle-level restaurants in Sorgues, especially ones with typical "plates-du-jours". There's at least one restaurant (La Table de Sorgues) with a very high rating, but pricier and with longer lunches than we prefer when exploring towns and villages.
