The Tinée river runs about 70 km, from the foot of the Col the Bonette southeast to the Var river. The upper part of the Tinée valley passes Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée and the ski-station villages of Auron and Isola. The southern half, south of Isola, passes St-Sauveur-sur-Tinée and the perched villages of Rimplas, Marie, Ilonse, Clans and Bariols, then passes through the narrow Gorges de Valabres.
