Walks in The Cathar Region, Cathar Castles of Southwest France

An excellent hiking guide by Alan Mattingly. Very good maps and instructions, and an easy size to carry and use. A good overall history of the Cathars and great photos that will make you want to come just to see the countryside and the castles.

The Cathar Way, A Walker's Guide to the Sentier Cathare

Another excellent hiking guide by Alan Mattingly, this one covering the full 12-stage Cathar Way hiking trail. Even more history of the Cathars and some local color, along with the usual great maps and photos.

We'll be using these guides ourselves this coming Spring and Summer.
